Cedar, black locust and white oak
Harvested from multiple Madison properties
36’ L x 10’ H overall dimensions, in multiple sections

Project Summary

This project was inspired by a bird observation tower in Graswarder-Heiligenhafen, Germany.  Commissioned to screen the more private areas between two yards, while still allowing for passage of humans and animals alike.

Madison cedar trees (arborvitae) were used for the fencing/panels and black locust and white oak were used for posts and structural framework

Client Feedback

"We love our neighbors but not so much their yard full of plastic toys. And our neighbors don’t love the steep drop from their yard to ours. Heartwood found a creative, sustainable solution to our problem:  An unusual fence made from locally felled trees (which needed to be cut down anyway).  It’s a piece of art and keeps all the kids safe!
